Toddler Play Dates
Date: Saturday, March 7th, 2015
Time: 9 – 10:30 am
Fee: $2 per toddler with one free guardian
Would you like your toddler to learn more about nature with others their age? Then come by the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands & World Birding Center (EWBC) for Toddler Play Dates for families with children ages 1- 4. Toddler Play Dates are held once a month in Spring.
Each play date features a theme that your children will no doubt love and be inspired by. The play dates will include hands-on, interactive play for you and your children in a safe and happy environment. Activities may include puppet shows, story-telling, puzzle time, free play, coloring, crafts, and guided walks throughout the grounds.
Spring dates and themes are as follows: Saturday, March 7th: Owls; Saturday, April 4th: Dragonflies; Saturday, May 9th: Fish. Toddler Play Dates are scheduled from 9- 10:30 a.m. Fee per toddler is $2 (with one free guardian) while any additional family members visiting must pay EWBC admission. Space is limited so please call ahead to register.
Tales & Myths
Date: Saturday, March 7th, 2015
Time: 2:30 – 4 pm
Fee: Regular admission. Members free.
Ever wonder about the history behind folklore that you’ve read or heard about? Visit us this spring at the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands & World Birding Center (EWBC) and let us guide you through our Tales & Myths series to uncover interesting facts about these stories.
Throughout human history, tales & myths have been used to explain and define our world. Animals & plants often played center stage in many folk tales. Come and attend our presentations relating to animals & plants told around the world. Participants will enjoy an indoor presentation and show & tell followed by a story walk through our grounds.
Tales & Myths dates and themes are as follows: Saturday, March 7th: Birds; Saturday, April 18th: Wildflowers; and Saturday, May 16th: Mammals. The presentations will be held from 2:30 to 4 pm. Fee for this program is $3 for adults; $2 for senior citizens, students, and children; and ages 5 and under free. Those with an EWBC family membership are also free. Please call ahead to register.
Outdoor Camping Skills Week

Time: 2 pm – 10 am
Fee: $13 members, $15 non-members
What will you be doing during Spring Break? How about learning camping skills in the great outdoors? The Edinburg Scenic Wetlands & World Birding Center (EWBC) has a great opportunity for nature fun for the entire family. Outdoor Camping Skills Week will prepare you for exciting outdoor activities.
Outdoor Camping Skills Week is a seven day course scheduled for Monday, March 9 – Sunday, March 15. Participants of all ages and skill levels are invited to share an experience of hands-on activities and environmental responsibilities. On the first day, find out what it takes to stay safe outside then practice setting up a tent. Tuesday will be all about safely building a campfire and learning of the best tools and techniques. On Wednesday, try your hand at outdoor cooking with some simple recipes. Thursday will include instruction on how to identify wildlife and plants while enjoying a guided walk through the trails. On Friday, you will have fun learning how to fish. Classes will be held from 2 – 4 p.m.
On Saturday enjoy an overnight family camping adventure on the EWBC grounds. Whether you’ve attended the previous sessions or not, you are invited to stop by for campfire cooking, stories, night walks, games, and more. The overnight camping will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday and end at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Supplies are limited so you’re encouraged to provide your own overnight camping gear.
Monday through Friday class fees are $2 for EWBC members and $4 for non-members. Supplies for these classes will be provided. The overnight camping fee is $13 for EWBC members and $15 for non-members. Meals and some supplies will be provided. Please call us ahead to register for classes and overnight camping as space will be limited. Scouts and troop leaders, this is a great opportunity to fulfill badge requirements.
