McAllen’s Earth Day VIDA VERDE
is bigger, better and greener than ever in 2013
Celebrate going green by enjoying live birds, reptiles, mammals, magical magician, music, art, food and just having fun! You are invited to the largest Earth Day Festival in south Texas, VIDA VERDE, on Saturday, April 20th from 9 am to 4 pm at Quinta Mazatlan in McAllen.
Thanks to our partners, Dr. John Gerling Orthodontics, Green Mountain Energy, HEB and Inter National Bank the show lineup is FANTASTIC! The main stage will feature the Raptor Project from New York, a very entertaining and exciting presentation with live birds of prey-eagles, hawks, falcons and owls. From the Texas Hill Country is Danny Connor and his Reptiles Adventures. Danny has kept and studied reptiles for over 30 years, and is widely considered a leading expert in the field with a dramatic edge to his show. Heading South from San Antonio is a new show with Ralph & Susan Fisher, titled the Buzzard Whisperer. The main tent will feature the Victoria Zoo exhibit with USFWS with a close-up experience with an Ocelot and many other rarely seen Texas wildlife. For the best comedy magic show, make sure to visit the Magic Dork-John O’Bryant from San Antonio.
On the grounds of Quinta Mazatlan, families will enjoy the Green Expo Tent with over 30 vendors and Art in the House with over 25 artists. While wandering the sanctuary, festival goers can have fun with Rock Climbing, Eco-Art Tent, Native Plant Sale, Food Court and more.
In the cottage, join our Valley Chefs Cooking Demonstrations: Chef Max with Sahadi’s, Chef Adrian with Miyagi, Chef Art & Lupita with Naturalissimo, Chef Jesse with Intl. Culinary Institute, Chef Larry & Jessica with House Wine and Chef Elton with H-E-B. We’ll have Kids in the Kitchen as well with the Junior League of McAllen in the Discovery Center.
The courtyard will feature a Farmer’s Market with Music in the Park including Ensamble la Mision, Rumbo al Anaqua, Shoshanat Ya’akov, Pharr Community Theater, Among the Wildwood, Vanguard Academy, Tin Can Roaders and Barefoot Seranade.
New this year will be Storytime Characters & Crafts in the Discovery Center. Hourly our valley leaders will be reading stories accompanied by the characters in costume followed by an art project. Rick Guerra kicks off the series at 10:00 a.m. with “Where the Wild Things Are”.
