Habitat Tours of the Bayside Drive

Bus  – 2 ½ hour tour

Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday                10:00 AM & 1:30 PM

Open-air Tram  – 3 ½ hour tour

Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday                8:30 AM & 1:00 PM

Enjoy a guided tour through the habitats of the refuge including thornscrub forest, coastal prairie, wetlands and the scenic Laguna Madre.  Discover the history of the refuge – both natural and cultural, see how lands are being managed for wildlife, and view the special wildlife that call deep south Texas home.  Binoculars and jackets recommended.  There will be two stops with short, optional walks. Tickets $4 for adults (16+), $3.50 seniors (62+), under 16 free but ticket required, available at the Visitor Center the day of the tour.

Bird Tour 

Experienced birders will take you in a van to refuge birding hot spots where private vehicles are not allowed.  Tours alternate between Laguna Atascosa and Bahia Grande areas.  Thursdays – Mondays 8:30 am – 12 pm.  Call 956-748-3607 ext. 111 to make your reservation. $4 for adults (16+), $3.50 seniors (62+), under 16 free.

Native Plant Program 

Discover the variety and uses of thornscrub plants on a short walk around the visitor center.   FREE, Saturdays at 1 pm.

Bird Walks – Discover some of south Texas’ specialty birds on a short walk around the visitor center. FREE, Thursday – Sunday, 2 pm – 3 pm.

Ranger Talks – Laguna Atascosa has a variety of unique natural resources.  Find out more about them at these short, interactive talks. FREE, most Saturdays at 11 am in the amphitheater.

Ocelot Soiree – Annual fundraising event for ocelot conservation, hosted by Friends of Laguna Atascosa.  March 7, 6 – 9 pm at Gladys Porter Zoo.  Live ocelot, auction, food, drink, music.  Tickets $50 per person.  Call Paul at 956-748-3607 ext 114, or 956-832-3905 for tickets.

Ocelot Conservation Day – Live ocelot, Lucas Miller the Singing Zoologist, activities for all ages. March 8, 10 – 4, at Gladys Porter Zoo.  Free event, Zoo admission applies.

Santa Ana & Lower Rio Grande Valley NWRs  

Butterfly Walks – Wednesdays at 10:00 am

Photo Walks – Thursdays at 10:00 am

Nature Walks – Saturdays at 1:00 am

Bird Walks – Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays at 8:30 am

Tram Tours – Daily at 9:30, 12:00 and 2:00.  Tickets $4 adults, $3.50 seniors, free under 16.

Winter Texan Appreciation Day February 15, 10 – 3.  Free admission, refreshments, popcorn.  Tram tickets $2.

Birding Adventure to Trinidad & Tobago – Feb 18, 2 pm presentation at the visitor center.

La Sal del Rey Tour – February 19, 8:00.  $20 per person, call for reservation.
